The Maliyadeva Adarsha Past Pupils’ Association stands today as a shining symbol of loyalty, leadership, and commitment. Through decades of service, the association has strengthened the bond between its alumni and the school, championing academic and extracurricular excellence while embodying the true spirit of “giving back”.
With each passing year, the PPA continues to inspire new generations of past pupils to uphold its values and contribute to the growth of Maliyadeva Adarsha Maha Vidyalaya.
Maliyadeva Adarsha Maha Vidyalaya, situated in Kurunegala, is a prominent Buddhist mixed-gender national school that provides education from Grade 1 to Grade 13 in both Sinhala and English mediums.
Established on February 27, 1978, as Maliyadeva Adarsha Prathamika Vidyalaya with just 123 students, the school has grown remarkably to accommodate over 4,200 students supported by nearly 200 dedicated teachers. It progressed into a junior school in 1982 and celebrated its first G.C.E. Ordinary Level batch in 1987 with a remarkable pass rate.
In 1988, the school was upgraded to a Maha Vidyalaya, introducing Advanced Level streams in Science, Commerce, and Arts. The academic structure includes a well-developed primary section, junior secondary, and senior secondary levels, along with a special education unit.
The school also encourages holistic development through its house system — Thissa, Mahasen, Gemunu, and Parakum — named after historic Sri Lankan kings, which compete in the annual Inter-House Sports Meet.
Notably, the school organizes the annual “Battle of the Tuskers” cricket encounter with Ibbagamuwa Central College, a major event revived in 2018. With strong leadership from principals such as D.C. Ranasinghe and T.B. Siriwardana, and continued support from an active Past Pupils’ Association, Maliyadeva Adarsha Maha Vidyalaya remains a beacon of excellence in the region’s educational landscape.
